This week, seven Ranney Lower School students and one Middle School student were named Heroes of the Week by a local breast cancer charity called Breast Intentions. The students—second graders James Lawson, Gavin Jones, Cole Serrapica, Sophia Behar, Henry Alston and Desmond Pepe along with sixth-grader Sam Alston and fourth-grader Andrew Pepe—decided on their own to raise money for the charity by catching and selling sand crabs. The charity was so moved by their generosity and giving spirit that they designated these students their “Heroes of the Week.”
Did you know that Ranney School students in all three divisions (Lower, Middle and Upper) commit their time to community service year-round? Here are just a few of the organizations our community has been involved with during the 2014-15 school year: Amistad, Clean Ocean Action, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, CROP Hunger Walk (Church World Service), Family & Children’s Services of Monmouth County, Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, Kensington Court Assisted Living Center, K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, Lunch Break , Ronald McDonald House of Central and Northern Jersey, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Toys for Tots Foundation.
