Word Study is lots of fun using the SmartBoard and ipad minis for interactive games, but baking is a bonus. Pinetrest had a wonderful activity that had children over the moon. First we read If You Were a Synonym. We talked about old, worn out words and how to revise our writing. Children worked with partners to brainstorm synonyms using a Thesaurus. They created either pairs or a list from one. After they created their planning sheets, on went the chef hats (made from tissue paper and sentence strips) as they “baked their “Synonym Rolls” on brown paper. Second Grade loved this project! The project itself is a keeper, coupled with a handful of Kellogg’s Cinnabon cereal.
