Ari Baum, coach of the girls’ varsity ice hockey team at The Hill School (Pottstown, Pa.), aims to ensure that the sport is “an elite program” at the 163-year-old school which first admitted girls in 1998. Also an instructor of economics and dorm parent among his many roles, Baum is proud of the academic as well as athletic passion of his players. The girls, as noted in this video, love the team’s camaraderie, coaching staff, and their home in the state-of-the-art Edward Tuck Hall Arena and Thomas Eccleston Jr. Rink, named for Ned Hall, a former Headmaster and the School’s first official ice hockey coach, and Coach Eccleston, who in his 12 years at The Hill compiled a record of 185-57-5 for the boys’ team. The Lady Blues are a member of the WIHLMA (Women’s Ice Hockey League of the Mid-Atlantic).
