Aspen Academy Introduces Digital Music in the Contemporary Music Classroom

Music is arguably one of the most complicated and comprehensive subjects taught and it’s easy to understand why most schools adhere to traditional music programs. However, at Aspen Academy we are providing our students with a traditional musical foundation and expanding it to the music techniques, instruments and theories of the 21st century. This includes the use of digital instruments and the creation of digital music.

Our 8th grade students learn how to use software to create, manipulate and organize samples and original melodies into pop, dance, techno and hip hop songs. They work together in groups or individually to express musical themes, ideas and emotions of their own creation. The goal is for them to become so proficient that they create. Many educators believe
that creation is the highest level of thinking and understanding. We agree.
