Hathaway Brown campers perform Random Acts of Kindness in downtown Cleveland

Twenty-one girls from Hathaway Brown’s Leading for Life outdoor adventure and leadership camp headed to downtown Cleveland for their second Random Acts of Kindness Day on Wednesday, July 16. After enjoying the variety of foods offered by the numerous Food Trucks at Walnut Wednesday, the girls treated the crowd to a Flash Mob dance to Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.” The Cavaliers Scream Team was on hand and even they jumped in, so the dance became an enthusiastic celebration with acrobatics and cheering, all to the delight of hundreds of onlookers.

The Leading for Life campers also decorated sidewalks all over the city with sidewalk chalk messages including positive and kind sayings and drawings. They handed out water bottles decorated with inspirational quotes to construction workers, city employees, police officers, and the homeless. In Cleveland’s Public Square, the girls cleaned all four garden areas and sidewalks of trash, handed out pennies for people to make free wishes in the fountains, held doors open for people entering or leaving Tower City, and handed out RAK stickers to encourage others to pass on the kindness. Their efforts were received with shock, delight, tears, and even hugs. It was a wonderful and simple way to spread good cheer and brighten people’s day.
